- Substitute: 3(y+1) + 2y = 16 → 3y + 3 + 2y = 16 → 5y = 13... wait. Let me recheck.
- 5y = 13 is not integer — let me use elimination: multiply eq2 by 3: 3x − 3y = 3. Subtract from eq1: (3x+2y) − (3x−3y) = 16−3 → 5y = 13. Hmm.
- Let me try x − y = 1 multiplied by 2: 2x − 2y = 2. 3x + 2y = 16, add: 5x = 18 → not integer.

- Steps:
- Multiply x − y = 2 by 2: 2x − 2y = 4.

[Medium] Binomial Probability
- EN: A fair coin is flipped 4 times. What is the probability of getting exactly 3 heads?
- FR: Une pièce de monnaie équilibrée est lancée 4 fois. Quelle est la probabilité d'obtenir exactement 3 faces?
- Choices: A) 1/8 B) 1/4 C) 3/8 D) 1/16
- Hint: P = C(n,k) × pᵏ × (1−p)ⁿ⁻ᵏ — e.g., C(3,2) × (1/2)³ = 3/8 for 2 heads in 3 flips.
- Steps:
- P = C(4,3) × (1/2)³ × (1/2)¹.
- = 4 × (1/8) × (1/2) = 4/16 = 1/4.
- The probability is 1/4.
- Answer: 1/4
[Medium] Polynomial Division
- EN: Divide: (x² + 5x + 6) ÷ (x + 2)
- FR: Divise : (x² + 5x + 6) ÷ (x + 2)
- Choices: A) x + 2 B) x + 3 C) x − 3 D) x + 4
- Hint: Factor the numerator then cancel — e.g., (x² + 7x + 12) ÷ (x + 3) = (x+3)(x+4)/(x+3) = x + 4.
- Steps:
- Factor: x² + 5x + 6 = (x + 2)(x + 3).
- Divide by (x + 2): = x + 3.
- The result is x + 3.
- Answer: x + 3
[Hard] Dot Product of Vectors
- EN: Two vectors are u = (2, −1, 3) and v = (4, 5, −2). What is u · v?
- FR: Deux vecteurs sont u = (2, −1, 3) et v = (4, 5, −2). Quel est u · v?
- Choices: A) −3 B) 0 C) 3 D) 9
- Hint: Dot product: multiply corresponding components and add — e.g., (1, 2, 3)·(4, −1, 2) = 4 − 2 + 6 = 8.
- Steps:
- (2)(4) + (−1)(5) + (3)(−2).
- = 8 − 5 − 6 = −3.
- u · v = −3.
- Answer: −3
[Hard] Normal Distribution — Z-Score
- EN: In a Grade 12 exam, the mean score is 72 and the standard deviation is 8. A student scored 88. What is their z-score, and what does it indicate?
- FR: Dans un examen de 12e année, la moyenne est de 72 et l'écart-type est de 8. Un élève a obtenu 88. Quel est son score z et qu'indique-t-il?
- Choices: A) z = 1, slightly above average B) z = 2, two standard deviations above the mean C) z = 4, four standard deviations above the mean D) z = 16, well above average
- Hint: z = (x − μ) / σ — e.g., score 85, mean 70, SD 5: z = (85−70)/5 = 3, meaning 3 SDs above the mean.
- Steps:
- z = (88 − 72) / 8 = 16 / 8 = 2.
- A z-score of 2 means the student scored 2 standard deviations above the mean.
- The answer is z = 2, two standard deviations above the mean.
- Answer: z = 2, two standard deviations above the mean

A Story of Kindness
Aisha loved spending Saturday mornings at the Riverview Community Garden in Moncton. One afternoon, she noticed her elderly neighbour, Mr. Gauthier, struggling to water the tall tomato plants at the far end of the plot. Without being asked, Aisha carried the heavy watering can back and forth until every plant had a long, cool drink. Mr. Gauthier smiled and thanked her, then showed her how to spot the tiny green tomatoes hiding behind the leaves, and Aisha thought that was the best reward of all.
